John Herberman has always played the
piano. Studying the instrument from the
age of 8, he very quickly began to develop his own unique style of
improvisation. As a teenager, John
performed regularly as a soloist and as an
accompanist for a number of singers.
After completing a university degree in Music Education, John briefly
taught Music at the high school level, before deciding to devote all of his
time to composition and performance.
Herberman’s style is thoughtful,
introspective and moody. His music can
evoke both strong emotion and peaceful repose.
Images of wilderness and the natural environment underlie the strong
melodies of his compositions. The
listener is transported to places from his own past and to places in his own
dreams.
Currently, John divides his time between
composing and performing solo piano music, and creating original music for film
and television. He is married, with two
teenage sons, and makes his home in Toronto, Canada
